The Browns cut defensive backs Royce Adams and T.J. Heath, offensive linemen Randall Harris, Ryan Lee and Jeremiah Warren, running back Edwin Baker, defensive lineman Cam Henderson, receivers Tim Smith, Jonathan Krause and Anthony Armstrong, linebackers Caleb McSurdy and Keith Pough, and tight end Martell Webb.
Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer said he's confident in the team's receivers even if Josh Gordon is suspended for the year as expected, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "Yeah, no doubt," he said. "I look at the guys that we have and I've talked about the guys I throw with but you throw in Nate Burleson, Anthony Armstrong -- I was shocked to know that he didn't play last year,'' said Hoyer. "If you watched him in our spring, he was awesome. Not to mention our tight ends and our skill guys. I feel really confident with who we have and going forward we know that we have what it takes to win games. We know that the guys that are on this team right now are what we're going to have for this season and that's what we're going with, and I feel confident with what we have." Hoyer's top targets sans Gordon will be tight end Jordan Cameron and receivers Miles Austin, Andrew Hawkins, Burleson and Armstrong.
Desperate for receiver help, the Browns signed wideout Anthony Armstrong, reports Pro Football Talk. Armstrong, 31, was out of the league last season. His best season came in 2010, when he caught 44 passes for 871 yards and three touchdowns for the Redskins.
Free agent receiver Anthony Armstrong recently took part in Redskins' minicamp as part of a tryout, reports ESPN. The report says the Redskins need receiver depth, and Armstrong played for the Redskins as recently as 2011. He was not with a team in 2013.
The Lions worked out receivers Anthony Armstrong, Charles Hawkins and Lavelle Hawkins on Tuesday, reports ProFootballTalk.com. Anthony Armstrong, 30, last played for the Cowboys. LaVelle Hawkins, 27, was cut by the 49ers in the preseason. Charles Hawkins is a 23-year-old rookie from Southern University. Detroit is in the market for a receiver after losing Nate Burleson to a broken arm.
