Stoneburner signed a reserve/future contract with the Saints earlier this month, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Stoneburner entered the league in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State. The 6-3, 249-pound tight end has spent time with the Packers, Dolphins and Rams, but was signed to the Saints practice squad in September 2016. Stoneburner will compete for a roster spot next season as the Saints' third-string tight end behind Coby Fleener and Josh Hill.
Dolphins tight end Dion Sims has been ruled out for the Sunday clash in London, reports Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post. Sims hasn't played since sustaining a concussion in Week 1. And considering he didn't make the flight to England, it's clear he won't play against the Jets. Jake Stoneburner (three catches for 31 yards and a touchdown in two games) will once again fill in behind Jordan Cameron.
Dolphins tight end Dion Sims (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports. Considering Sims did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, his status for Sunday comes as no surprise. Jake Stoneburner could see additional snaps with Sims watching on the sidelines, however starting tight end Jordan Cameron, who recorded four catches for 73 yards in Week 1, should be an even more prominent figure for QB Ryan Tannehill with Sims out.
The Dolphins announced Monday they released running back LaMichael James. To take his spot on the roster, tight end Jake Stoneburner was promoted from the practice squad.
The Dolphins have cut cornerback Ahmad Dixon and tight end Jake Stoneburner from their practice squad while signing linebacker Jake Knott and wideout L'Damian Washington to the same unit.
