The Colts have pared down their roster to 53 on Saturday by cutting 17 players and making other moves. The offensive players on the list are running back David Fluellen, quarterback Chandler Harnish, wide receivers Ryan Lankford and Josh Lenz, center FN Lutz, tight ends Weslye Saunders and Erik Swoope and guard Josh Walker. The defensive players let go by Indianapolis are ends Gannon Conway and Tyler Hoover, linebackers Rob Ruggiero, Kelvin Sheppard, Phillip Hunt and Andrew Jackson, safety Dewey McDonald, tackles Brandon McKinney and Nnamdi Obukwelu and cornerback Sheldon Price. The Colts waived/injured tackle Matt Hall and safety Delano Howell and placed linebacker Robert Mathis on the reserve/suspended list.
Free safety Delano Howell has been waived/injured list by the Colts. Howell has been plagued by a serious neck injury. He showed promise in limited opportunities with Indianapolis last season.
The following players will not dress for the Colts Saturday night against the Saints in preseason action: Delano Howell, Vick Ballard, Deji Karim, Jerrell Freeman, Josh McNary, Ulrick John, Xavier Nixon and Montori Hughes.
The neck injury to Colts safety Delano Howell is serious, but not career-threatening, per ESPN. Howell met with doctors this week to discuss his future. He is set to meet with the team Friday to talk about a timetable for returning to action. The injury does have the Colts considering veteran Mike Adams to play alongside LaRon Landry as a starting safety.
Colts strong safety Delano Howell has visited multiple medical experts regarding his "potentially serious neck issue," reports the Indianapolis Star. The issue appears related to the neck injury that sidelined him for 10 games last season. With Howell out, Mike Adams and Sergio Brown are competing to start alongside free safety LaRon Landry.
