The Eagles have waived outside linebacker Travis Long, according to ESPN.com. Long suffered a torn ACL on Monday and if he goes unclaimed, he will be placed on the team's injured reserve list. Long has been with Philadelphia since 2013, but is yet to play a game after suffering multiple injuries.
Eagles linebacker Travis Long tore the ACL in his left knee and is out for the season, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Long suffered the same injury to the same knee last year at the end of preseason and missed the season.
Despite tearing his ACL in each of his knees over the last two years, Eagles linebacker Travis Long is close to being the player he was before suffering the injries, reports ESPN.com. "He's really right back to where he was," coach Chip Kelly said. "He's really contributing well on special teams and he's making a push toward outside linebacker right now." Long tore his right ACL during his senior season in college in 2013 and then tore his left ACL in the final preseason game last season, but he said the injuries will not prevent him from making a comeback. "It was really tough," Long said. "Initially, I was like, do I really want to do this again? But that subsided really quick. I knew I wanted to play football still. I still haven't been out there on a Sunday yet. I still have that desire. I've got to do that."
The Eagles announced their final cuts to trim the roster to 53 players Saturday. The following players were all released Saturday: linebackers Emmanuel Acho and Josh Kaddu; defensive linemen Wade Keliikipi and Damion Square; defensive backs Curtis Marsh, Roc Carmichael, Keelan Johnson and Ed Reynolds; quarterback G.J. Kinne; running backs Kenjon Barner (waived/injured), Henry Josey and Matthew Tucker; wide receiver Ifeanyi Momah, Quron Pratt, Will Murphy and Damaris Johnson ; kicker Alex Henery; and offensive linemen Kevin Graf and Josh Andrews. The team also added wide receiver Arrelious Benn (back) and linebacker Travis Long (knee) to injured reserve.
Eagles linebacker Travis Long, who did not take a snap as a rookie in 2013, has torn his ACL, sources have told the Philadelphia Inquirer. Long sustained the injury in the final preseason game Thursday. He had been expected to earn a spot on the roster.
