Harbor (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills. With the return to health of top tight end Julius Thomas, however, Harbor's Week 7 absence is of more import to the Jaguars' depth at tight end than it is to fantasy owners.
Jaguars tight end Clay Harbor caught four passes on six targets for 31 yards in Sunday's loss to the Colts. Harbor has served as the Jaguars' No. 2 tight end in the absence of Julius Thomas (hand), but with Thomas expected to return within the next week or two, Harbor could see his role diminish. Through four games, he's been targeted only 12 games, hauling in seven passes for a total of 74 yards. His lone touchdown came in the second half of a blowout loss to New England in Week 3.
The Jaguars would seem to have too many tight ends after signing free agent Julius Thomas, but Clay Harbor feels like he will still be able to make an impact at the position with the team's offensive scheme, per the Florida Times-Union. Harbor had 26 receptions for 289 yards last season, but went through a stretch where he was virtually absent from the team's offense. But the Jags plan on running a two tight-end offense, and Harbor hopes he will be part of the plans. "This system is very exciting," Harbor said. "It uses the tight ends a lot and it gives our [meeting] room more opportunities to make plays."
The minor contributors outnumbered the major ones Sunday for the Jaguars - it's no wonder they lost badly to Dallas. The best of the bunch was wideout Allen Robinson, who caught five passes for 60 yards. Tight end Clay Harbor chipped in with three catches for 28 yards while running back Jordan Todman added three receptions for 27 yards and two rushes for six yards. Also contributing were tight end Nic Jacobs (1-14) and wideouts Marqise Lee (1-13), Ace Sanders (1-10) and Allen Hurns (1-9). Running back Toby Gerhart managed two yards on four carries for Jacksonville, which has embarked on its bye week.
The Jaguars received minor contributions from several role players in a Week 8 defeat to Miami. Running back Jordan Todman worked behind Denard Robinson and Toby Gerhart in the running game, rushing for only 10 yards on two carries. He also caught all two of his targets for no gain. Rookie wideout Marqise Lee wasn't much of factor, as he came down with a 9-yard grab in the fourth quarter for his only catch of the afternoon. Tight end Clay Harbor caught two of four targets for 27 yards in a 27-13 defeat.
