The Bears have released several players, including veteran blocking tight end Jeron Mastrud. Mastrud caught six passes last season for Oakland. Also let go by Chicago are running back Jordan Lynch, wideout Armanti Edwards, tackle Dennis Roland and offensive lineman Robert Turner .
On Tuesday the Bears announced the signings of receivers Armanti Edwards and Micheal Spurlock while agreeing to an injury settlement with Domenik Hixon and waiving linebacker Tana Patrick . Edwards and Spurlock will likely compete for kick return duties with the Bears. Spurlock hasn't returned a kick for a touchdown since 2012 and has three in his eight-year career while Spurlock hasn't scored a touchdown in any way since entering the league in 2010. Hixon tore his ACL in practice with the Bears last week and won't play football in 2014. Patrick, a former member of the Crimson Tide, was signed in May.
Receiver Armanti Edwards is working out for the Seahawks, reports ESPN's Adam Caplan. He had a 10-yard catch for the Browns last season before going on IR with an ankle injury in November.
The Browns announced Tuesday they waived wide receiver Armanti Edwards (ankle) and cornerback Chris Owens (knee). Both players were on injured reserve.
The Browns have promoted slot receiver Josh Cooper from the practice squad and placed fellow wideout Armanti Edwards on injured reserve with an ankle injury. They have also signed wide receiver Reggie Dunn to the practice squad.
