The Jaguars are not in good shape in the standings, but they are in good shape otherwise. All eight players on their Friday injury report at questionable or probable. The former category consists of linebackers LaRoy Reynolds (neck) and Jeremiah George (ankle). The probables are quarterback Blake Bortles (wrist), defensive ends Andre Branch (groin) and Chris Clemons (knee), safety Josh Evans (elbow), cornerback Demetrius McCray (ankle) and wideout Cecil Shorts (illness).
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said Wednesday starting cornerback Alan Ball is considered doubtful to play Week 8 against the Dolphins due to a biceps injury. Bradley added Ball is getting a second opinion on the injury. Bradley said Dwayne Gratz and Demetrius McCray would start at cornerback Sunday, if Ball is sidelined.
Jaguars cornerback Demetrius McCray will start against the Steelers if starter Dwayne Gratz sits as expected, reports the Florida Times-Union. Gratz suffered a concussion in the Week 4 loss to the Chargers. A seventh-round pick in 2013, McCray started one game last season. He has played in every game since entering the league, recording 17 tackles and two passes defended.
In addition to second-round pick Jonathan Cyprien, the Jaguars drafted five defensive backs: Connecticut cornerback Dwayne Gratz, Florida safety Josh Evans, New Mexico State cornerback Jeremy Harris and Appalachian State cornerback Demetrius McCray. They also drafted receiver/kick returner Ace Sanders from South Carolina.
