The Panthers signed former Jets receiver Stephen Hill to the practice squad Tuesday, terminating the contract of linebacker D.J. Smith in a related move. Hill, a second-round pick in 2012, caught 45 passes for 594 yards and four touchdowns in 23 games played over two seasons. With a wide-open depth chart at his position in Carolina, Hill has the opportunity to work his way into playing time if he can impress his new team on the practice field.
