Evans has been suspended for the first four games of the 2017 season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, ESPN's Todd Archer reports. Evans, who signed a reserve/future contract with the Cowboys in January, is yet to appear in a regular-season game despite entering the league as a fourth-round draft pick in 2014. He isn't guaranteed a roster spot in Dallas and this suspension will likely only make it more difficult for him to do so.
Evans signed a reserve/future contract with Dallas on Monday. Evans has yet to play in an NFL game since being selected in the fourth round of the 2014 draft. He'll be looking to secure a role as a depth receiver and special teams player in 2017.
Evans (leg) returned to practice Wednesday, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports. Evans hasn't practice since Jul. 31, as he's been dealing with a lower leg muscle strain. He's currently battling for a roster spot, so his return to the field was much needed, as he'll need to impress the coaching staff over the next few weeks. The 25-year-old wide receiver has yet to log action in a regular season game during his career, further exemplifying the uphill battle Evans has to make the final roster.
Evans hasn't practiced since suffering a lower leg muscle strain in practice on Sunday. Evans is entering his third NFL season and has yet to play in a regular season game. He needed surgery on his shoulder in 2014, costing him his rookie season, and failed to make the Jets roster last season. Now with the Jaguars, Evans is experiencing yet another setback. He's missed the team's last two practices and is still without a timetable to return. In his absence Rasheed Bailey and Jamal Robinson figure to get some extra reps.
The Jets lost three players to concussions and three others to an assortment of injuries in Friday's preseason game against Atlanta, per ESPN. Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, safety Durell Eskridge and running back Daryl Richardson all left with concussions. Offensive tackle Ben Ijalana left the game with a knee injury. Shaq Evans sprained his back, and Sashaun Phillips hurt his ribs.
