The Jets have cut their roster down to 53 by waiving a number of players. Those on offense are quarterback Tajh Boyd and Matt Simms, wide receivers Clyde Gates and Stephen Hill, running backs Daryl Richardson and Alex Green, tight end Chris Pantale, linemen Brent Qvale and Caleb Schlauderaff. The defenders imclude defensive backs Rontez Miles, Jeremy Reeves, Johnny Patrick, Dimitri Patterson and Brandon Dixon, linemen Zach Thompson, Kerry Hyder and Tevita Finau and linebackers Garrett McIntyre and A.J. Edds. Linebacker Antwan Barnes has been placed on the PUP list.
The Jets announced a flurry of moves Tuesday. They first placed wide receiver Clyde Gates (shoulder) and running back Mike Goodson (knee) on injured reserve. To take their spots on the roster, the Jets signed wide receiver Greg Salas off the Eagles' practice squad and wide receiver/kick returner Josh Cribbs. The Jets also made an addition to the practice squad by adding running back Miguel Maysonet.
With Jeremy Kerley limited to two catches for 19 yards, Jets wide receiver Clyde Gates made a surprising contribution out of the slot Week 6 against the Steelers, leading the team with a season-high five catches for 36 yards. His seven targets were second only to Stephen Hill's eight. Gates didn't make it to the end of the game, though, leaving early in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury. He'll no doubt be looking to build off this performance if he's able to play Week 7 against the Patriots, but right now, his status is unknown.
A pair of Jets wide receivers are expected to play through injuries in Week 6 against the Steelers, despite being limited at times during the week in practice. Clyde Gates (knee) and David Nelson (hamstring) are both probable for Sunday's game after getting through Friday's practice.
Eight different Jets caught a pass in the win over Atlanta. Among them, newly-signed receiver David Nelson caught two passes for 9 yards and receiver Clyde Gates caught a 3-yard pass.
