Smith signed a reserve/future contract with the Seahawks on Thursday, Curtis Crabtree of the Associated Press reports. Smith hasn't played in a game since 2014, failing to make an active roster the past two seasons. He'll look to carve out a role on special teams and at the bottom of the receiver depth chart in Seattle in 2017.
Smith secured three of four targets for 32 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 27-17 preseason loss to the Seahawks. The third-year FSU product hauled in a tough six-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter from the arm of Jameill Showers, capping a six-play, 74-yard drive. After only tallying one catch in his first two preseason games, Thursday's production was pivotal in Smith's case for a final roster spot. However, after having yet to record a regular-season reception in his first two seasons and solid competition for the remaining receiver jobs, Smith appears to face an uphill battle to survive final cuts heading into the final exhibition contest.
