The Jets will sign Pierce, who is set to serve a two-game suspension to start the 2016 season, NFL.com reports. Matt Forte and Bilal Powell currently top the Jets' RB depth chart, but Pierce will give the team added backfield depth heading into training camp, with Khiry Robinson a candidate to open camp on the PUP list and the team planning to waive Zac Stacy with a failed physical designation.
Pierce (calf) has been suspended for the first two games of the 2016 NFL campaign, ESPN reports. There is no official word on the reasoning behind Pierce's suspension, but it may have to do with a DUI arrest from last March. The free-agent running back was claimed off of waivers by Jacksonville only a day after his arrest, but ultimately only gained 11 yards on six carries in 2015. At this point, given his lack of production last season, his injury problems and his off-the-field issues, Pierce will face an uphill battle as he looks for work this coming season.
Pierce was placed on injured reserve Monday, the Jaguars' official site reports. During pregame warmups for a Week 10 tilt in Baltimore, Pierce injured his calf and subsequently missed the Jags' past four games. With seemingly no end in sight to the absences, he'll miss the rest of his first season in Jacksonville, where he turned six carries into 11 yards and three receptions (on five targets) into seven yards.
Pierce (calf) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers. Pierce has only six carries on the season, so his absence should be of little consequence to fantasy teams.
Pierce (calf) is considered doubtful to play Sunday against the Chargers, Jaguars.com reports. Pierce has been battling a calf injury for the last couple of weeks, and he was inactive for last Thursday's win over the Titans. The former Raven appears destined for a second straight inactive designation, though he likely wouldn't hold a major role in the offense, regardless.
