The Panthers reached the NFL's 75-man limit Tuesday thanks to a series of moves, including placing star wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin on the season-ending injured reserve list with a knee injury, per a team release. Carolina waived WR Jarrett Boykin, DT Kenny Horsley, S Robert Lester and WR De'Andre Presley, placed OT Davonte Wallace and CB Melvin White on the waived/injured list and reached an injury settlement with DT Micanor Regis.
The Panthers announced a pair of roster moves on Monday. The team reinstated defensive end Frank Alexander to the 53-man active roster and placed wide receiver De'Andre Presley on injured reserve with a concussion.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera told reporters Monday that wide receiver De'Andre Presley suffered a concussion in Week 16 against Cleveland. He will be in the league-mandated protocol leading up to Week 17 against Atlanta. He was targeted just once before departing on Sunday. He has yet to catch a pass this season.
The Panthers have announced they've waived wide receiver Jason Avant Tuesday. To replace Avant, the Panthers promoted wide receiver De'Andre Presley from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. In 11 games, Avant has 21 receptions for 201 yards and one touchdown. Coach Ron Rivera indicated the team would like to give its younger receivers more of an opportunity.
The Panthers placed quarterback Matt Blanchard, tight end D.C. Jefferson and offensive lineman Kevin Matthews on injured reserve, ending their seasons. Receiver De'Andre Presley was placed on reserve/PUP, meaning he's ineligible for the first six games.
