Banyard has been promoted from the practice squad. With Corey Grant (hip) landing on the IR and T.J. Yeldon (groin) still very much a question mark for Sunday's game against the Bills, Banyard was promoted to provide some depth at the running back position. Considering Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson will likely get most of looks out of the backfield, Banyard shouldn't be viewed as a viable fantasy option at this time. However, that could easily change if Robinson or Gerhart suffers an injury of their own.
Vikings running back Joe Banyard received some work Week 12 against the Packers. Banyard carried the ball five times for 26 yards. He also played a role in the passing game, hauling in all three targets for 19 yards. Banyard will look for more Week 13 against the Panthers.
The Vikings backup pass-catchers didn't contribute much Week 6 against the Packers. Tight end MarQueis Gray led the bunch with 16 yards on one reception. Position mate Rhett Ellison finished behind Gray with one catch for 12 yards. Joe Banyard managed to come away with two receptions during the game, but only gained 11 yards. Receiver Charles Johnson had one catch, picking up 7 yards. The four will take on the Lions Week 6.
The Vikings signed Joe Banyard off the practice squad Saturday. The team has added to the roster's depth at running back with starter Adrian Peterson deactivated for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
The Vikings signed nine players to their practice squad: running back Joe Banyard, wideouts Kain Colter and Donte Foster, defensive tackle Isame Faciane, tight end Chase Ford, cornerback Kendall James, center Zac Kerin, offensive tackle Mike Remmers and defensive end Justin Trattou. Minnesota released linebacker Larry Dean and offensive tackle Austin Wentworth.
