Bersin (groin) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Falcons, ESPN's David Newton reports. With the Panthers' other wideouts either healthy or listed as probable, Bersin wouldn't have a significant role in the offense even if he were able to play. He only has seven targets all season.
Bersin caught one of two targets for 12 yards in Thursday's win over the Cowboys. Despite his standing as the Panthers' fourth receiver on the depth chart for Thursday's game, Bersin actually saw more targets (two) than lead wideout Ted Ginn (zero). Still, Bersin's main role with the club lies on special teams, and he shouldn't be expected to record much more than a stray catch in any given week. For the season, he has only six receptions for 82 yards.
Panthers wide receiver Brenton Bersin led the Panthers with four receptions (on four targets) for 54 yards in Sunday's win over the Buccaneers. Bersin made the most of an opportunity to impress with fellow wideouts Jerricho Cotchery (ankle) and Kevin Norwood inactive Sunday. In fact, with 54 receiving yards, including a long gain of 30 yards, Bersin set a new career-high for himself. While that evidences Bersin's underwhelming upside, he'll surely be pleased with his team-leading performance Sunday.
The Panthers have waived tight end Brandon Williams, per Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. The move frees up a spot on the roster for Carolina to add a fifth healthy receiver, Brenton Bersin, for the game Sunday.
The Panthers released wide receiver Brenton Bersin on Saturday, reports ESPN.com. Bersin caught 13 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown in 15 games last season.
