The Packers signed free-agent quarterback Matt Blanchard on Wednesday, as the former University of Wisconisn-Whitewater standout will get a chance to serve as the team's No. 3 signal-caller, per ESPN. Blanchard was on the practice squads of the Bears and Panthers in 2012-13 and spent all of last year on the Panthers' injured reserve list after suffering a concussion during a preseason game. Blanchard worked out for the Packers and coach Mike McCarthy last week. Green Bay has not re-signed No. 2 quarterback Matt Flynn.
The Panthers placed quarterback Matt Blanchard, tight end D.C. Jefferson and offensive lineman Kevin Matthews on injured reserve, ending their seasons. Receiver De'Andre Presley was placed on reserve/PUP, meaning he's ineligible for the first six games.
The Panthers signed their entire practice squad to reserve/futures contracts, reports the Charlotte Observer. The squad consists of wideout Brenton Bersin, quarterback Matt Blanchard, linebacker Ben Jacobs, guard Michael Jasper, tight end D.C. Jefferson, offensive tackle Andrew McDonald, cornerback DeAndre Presley and defensive end Craig Roh.
The Panthers announced Wednesday they signed quarterback Matt Blanchard to the practice squad and released defensive tackle Casey Walker from the practice squad to clear a roster spot.
The Bears waived injured quarterback Matt Blanchard (hand) after reaching an injury settlement Tuesday. There are now 75 players on the team's roster.
