The Dolphins promoted Williams from their practice squad to the active roster Monday. The Dolphins are seemingly healthy at the tight end spot, so it appears they simply want to increase their depth at the position. As the newest addition to the roster, Williams will slot in as the fourth tight end for the Dolphins.
The Panthers have waived tight end Brandon Williams, per Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. The move frees up a spot on the roster for Carolina to add a fifth healthy receiver, Brenton Bersin, for the game Sunday.
The Panthers unveiled a lengthy injury report for Sunday's game against Atlanta. Out of the 13 players listed on the report, Star Lotulelei (ankle) was the only player ruled out for Week 11. Bene Benwikere (ankle), Brandon Williams (foot) and Charles Johnson (rest) were labeled questionable. The following players were deemed probable: Nate Chandler (toe), Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring), Roman Harper (rest), Kawann Short (ankle), Jonathan Stewart (ankle), Trai Turner (ankle), Melvin White (knee) and DeAngelo Williams (foot).
Panthers pass catchers Jason Avant and Brandon Williams did little Week 9 against the Saints. Avant hauled in just one pass, gaining 8 yards. Williams wasn't much better, gaining 6 yards on his only reception. Williams nearly scored on the play, but he was ruled down a few yards short of the goal line. Both players will look for more Week 10 against the Eagles.
The Panthers received some minor contributions from several role players in a Week 7 loss to he Packers. Chris Ogbonnaya worked behind Jonathan Stewart and only rushed for 12 yards on four carries. He was targeted once in the passing game and was held without a grab. Brandon Williams caught two of three targets for 22 yards. Ed Dickson took a step back and was held without a catch despite being targeted once in a 38-17 defeat.
