The Packers released safety Charles Clay, cornerback Antonio Dennard, receivers Chris Harper and Gerrard Sheppard, linebacker Korey Jones, fullback Ina Liaina and quarterback Chase Rettig.
The Packers claimed receiver Gerrard Sheppard off waivers from the Ravens and are now at the 90-man roster limit, reports ESPN.com.
The Ravens cut receiver Gerrard Sheppard and signed defensive back Marrio Norman, reports the Baltimore Sun.
Asked what the Ravens' offense lacks, wideout Torrey Smith mentioned a "move-the-chains" receiver like Anquan Boldin. Of course, Baltimore traded Boldin following its Super Bowl victory last year. "I don't want to say an Anquan, but just a guy that's like a move-the-chains guy," Smith told the Baltimore Sun. "That's probably someone that we need on a consistent basis. Another weapon like that is just another person that Joe [Flacco] can rely on." Second-year pro Marlon Brown returns to the receiving corps, while Baltimore could lose unrestricted free agent Jacoby Jones and restricted free agent Tandon Doss. The other four receivers on the roster -- Deonte Thompson, Kamar Aiken, Gerrard Sheppard and Aaron Mellette – all are unproven, the report said.
The Ravens signed eight practice squad members to reserve-future deals: tight end Matt Furstenburg, wideout Kamar Aiken, defensive tackle Cody Larsen, offensive tackle David Mims, tight end Nathan Overbay, receiver Gerrard Sheppard, quarterback Nick Stephens and center Reggie Stephens. Those players are signed for the 2014 season even though the season does not officially begin until the start of the league's new year. The deals enable the players to keep working with the team, giving them a better chance to compete for roster spots.
