Running back Zurlon Tipton was signed to the Colts' practice squad Wednesday, Zak Keefer of The Indianapolis Star reports. With the inevitable release of Vick Ballard finally arriving Tuesday, Tipton was brought back to provide additional depth at the RB position. However with running backs Frank Gore, Josh Robinson and Tyler Varga already on the roster, it's unlikely Tipton will provide much of a Fantasy impact this season.
Colts running back Trent Richardson did not make the trip with the team to New England due to personal reasons and will not play in Sunday's AFC Championship game, the team announced Saturday. Richardson also missed the divisional round of the playoffs and received zero carries in the wild card round. Richardson reportedly missed walkthroughs Saturday and did not notify the team for his reason, according to the Indianapolis Star. Dan Herron and Zurlon Tipton will continue to carry the load for the Colts Sunday. Indianapolis is currently a 6 1/2-point underdog against the Patriots.
Colts running back Dan Herron ran 10 times for 35 yards and caught three passes for 31 yards Week 17 against the Titans, and he didn't play in the second half as starters rested. Trent Richardson rushed six times for 11 yards and had a 9-yard catch. No. 3 running back Zurlon Tipton added 21 yards on nine carries and caught both his targets for 45 yards. Look for Herron to keep dominating backfield snaps when Indy plays the Bengals or Steelers in the playoffs.
Colts running backs Dan Herron and Trent Richardson were non-factors in the Week 16 loss at Dallas. Herron ran seven times for 3 yards, while Richardson rushed twice for 1 yard. Running back Zurlon Tipton had one carry for minus-3 yards, leaving the team with an average of 0.1 yards per carry. Herron did catch three of four targets for 37 yards, and Tipton caught all four of his targets for 23 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown. Richardson secured both his targets for 8 yards. Look for Herron to lead the backfield Week 17 at Tennessee, and in the playoffs.
The Colts have signed rookie running back Zurlon Tipton from the practice squad and added him to the 53-man active roster in time for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on Saturday. In a corresponding move, the team has waived wide receiver Griff Whalen. The move was made to give Indianapolis some depth at running back after losing Ahmad Bradshaw for the remainder of the season with a fractured fibula and missing out on signing Ben Tate off waivers. Tate was waived by Cleveland and picked up by Minnesota. Tipton now joins Trent Richardson and Dan Herron as the only remaining backs on the Colts' active roster.
