Simonson was released by the Panthers on Saturday, Scott Simonson of ESPN reports. Simonson was released in order to make room for cornerback Lou Young on the roster. The Panthers are currently struggling with depth in their secondary, so the addition of young, and subsequent release of Simonson is an attempt at resolving that issue.
The Raiders were busy on Thursday as they continued to alter their roster before the start of manadatory minicamp, Adam Caplan of ESPN.com reports. The team cut tight end Scott Simonson and linebackers Jacoby Hale and Miles Burris. Oakland added wide receiver Kris Durham and linebacker Chase Williams.

Raiders offensive tackle Matt McCants and tight end Scott Simonson both suffered concussions during Friday's preseason game against Detroit, according to the Bay Area News Group. Both players will be evaluated leading up to the third preseason game next Friday at Green Bay.
