Smith is a free agent heading into the offseason. Smith, who dealt with a hamstring issue in advance of the 2016 season, eventually wound up on the Seahawks' practice squad before being released by the team on Dec. 6. The 6-0, 218-pounder, who played his college ball at Washington, turned 25 on Dec. 21.
Smith was promoted from the practice squad on Tuesday. The Seahawks were only carrying four wide receivers, and with Paul Richardson (hamstring) ailing, Smith was brought in to provide depth. However, this is not an offense that lends itself to much wide receiver production, especially down the depth chart.
The Seahawks waived or released these players: offensive tackles Wade Smith and Cory Brandon, cornerback Terrell Thomas, running back Demitrius Bronson, safety Mike Dobson, defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, cornerback Thomas Wolfe and receiver Kevin Smith.
The Seahawks signed former University of Washington receiver Kevin Smith, reports the Seattle Times. Smith was formerly with the Cardinals and Jaguars this offseason. In 2013, he made 50 catches for 765 yards for the Huskies. He becomes the 13th receiver on the Seahawks' roster.
