Though Larry Foote is on the Cardinals' coaching staff at the moment, he hasn't ruled out a potential return to the team. Speaking to the team's website, Foote said he's "50-50" about playing in 2015. He talked about the factors that could play into whether or not he returns to playing. "Draft, what happens with (suspended linebacker) Darryl Washington, stuff like that, how my knee feels (after offseason surgery)," Foote said. "I'll sit down with (Bruce Arians) and the next couple of months are really going to be the deciding factor." If Foote doesn't play, he'll be the linebackers coach for Arizona's upcoming season. He's been adjusting to the role of being a coach this offseason. "I am starting to like coaching," Foote said. "It's a little tough in the office, eating M&Ms, snacking all day, drinking coffee. I started my diet a couple days ago."
Cardinals linebacker Larry Foote played an important role on defense in 2014, but in 2015 he'll be serving a different role on the sideline. Coach Bruce Arians told reporters during Thursday's combine press conference that Foote is now an assistant coach for the Cardinals, per NBC Sports. The 35-year-old longtime Steeler spent last season with Arians in Arizona where he posted 88 tackles and two sacks. Although Arians said Thursday that Foote will decide whether he'll play next season, the NFLPA states that a player/coach is prohibited.
Cardinals starting safety Tyrann Mathieu and defensive end Calais Campbell are both set to play Saturday against the Panthers in the Wild Card round of the NFC playoffs. Both were considered probable coming into the matchup. Mathieu has played the last two weeks with a club cast on his thumb after having surgery on a broken bone. Also set to play Saturday are Larry Foote (knee) and Frostee Rucker (ankle).
The Cardinals have released their final injury report in preparation for their wild card matchup against the Panthers Saturday. Among those listed, quarterback Drew Stanton is out after not being able to practice all week. Coach Bruce Arians said earlier in the week if Stanton was able to practice for one of the three days, he would have been the starter. Others on the injury report include Jonathan Cooper (wrist/knee) and Dan Williams (foot) as questionable. Calais Campbell (hip), Larry Foote (knee), Tyrann Mathieu (thumb/hip), Frostee Rucker (ankle) and Lyle Sendlein (back) are considered probable.
Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said linebacker Larry Foote, who missed Sunday's game against the 49ers due to a knee injury, will be back for the team's wild-card game Saturday against the Panthers. Foote finished the regular season with 84 tackles (61 solo), two sacks and one interception in 15 games.
