Player Outlook

Tony Romo would like to forget the 2015 season. The Cowboys quarterback broke his collarbone twice and he was only able to play in four games. He's expected to be fine this season and hopefully the injury bug is behind him. We expect him to return as a No. 1 Fantasy quarterback and he's a great option with a mid-round pick in all leagues. In 2014, Romo had one of the best years of his career with 3,705 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions, and that's what he's capable of this year with the same coaching staff and more or less the same personnel. Make sure his collarbone is OK, but you can let Romo fall to you on Draft Day and end up with a standout Fantasy quarterback.

  • Cowboys' Tony Romo: Should be ready for OTAs
    By RotoWire Staff

Romo (collarbone) is expected to be a full participant when the Cowboys start OTAs in late May, the Dallas Morning News reports. Romo has reportedly recovered from his March 8 surgery a bit faster than expected, allowing him to take part in offseason workouts the past couple weeks. Meanwhile, Dez Bryant (foot) may not be ready for OTAs or June minicamp, but there's been no indication that he's behind schedule. Assuming Bryant avoids any major setbacks, Romo will have an excellent supporting cast in what figures to be a balanced Dallas offense.

  • Romo said Saturday that his rehab from collarbone surgery continues to go well and that he's been able to fully participate in his throwing program for over a week, David Helman of DallasCowboys.com reports. "It's been going great [during unofficial team workouts] for the last two, three weeks - just getting them going and being able to go full speed and all that stuff. It's been great," Romo said. "I can throw fully. I've been throwing fully here for a good week and a half, two weeks. It's been good." It's certainly encouraging that Romo's recovery has gone without a hitch so far, but there will still be a lot of question marks around the 36-year-old in 2016 after he played in just four games last season due to two collarbone fractures, and hasn't made it through a full 16-game schedule unscathed since 2012. If he's able to stay healthy the Cowboys have the talent around him to make Romo a very productive fantasy QB, but at this point that remains a very large 'if'.

  • Cowboys' Tony Romo: Feeling 'excellent' in recovery
    By RotoWire Staff

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Romo is feeling "excellent" in his recovery from surgery on his left collarbone on March 8, Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site reports. Exactly two weeks removed from the procedure, Romo has 4-6 weeks of rehabilitation still on the ledger, but there appears to be little worry about the quarterback missing OTAs, which start in mid-May.

  • Cowboys' Tony Romo: Undergoing surgery on collarbone
    By RotoWire Staff

Romo is undergoing surgery on his left collarbone Tuesday, Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports. Romo has opted for the Mumford procedure, which includes shaving the distal clavicle and was the preferred option of the two, as it reduces long-term stress on the collarbone. Knowing that, a recent CT scan must have revealed that he experienced a suitable amount of bone growth in his clavicle. Once the surgery is complete, his rehab is expected to encompass 6-to-8 weeks, meaning he has a great opportunity to participate in all OTAs once they kick off in May.

  • Cowboys' Tony Romo: To undergo collarbone surgery
    By RotoWire Staff

Romo (collarbone) will undergo surgery next week to address a fracture in his collarbone, the Dallas Morning News reports. Romo will have a couple of options for the surgery, one being the attachment of a plate to the collarbone in an effort to prevent the injury from recurring. The other option is to shave down part of the bone where it meets the shoulder in what's known as a Mumford procedure. The quarterback has not yet stated which path he'll take, though he noted last week that he's leaning toward the former procedure. Either way, he's expected to face a recovery timetable of six-to-eight weeks, which should allow him to be medically cleared for OTA's in May.
