Bills defensive end Manny Lawson was on the field for just 28 of the the team's 77 defensive plays in Sunday's win over the Colts, BuffaloBills.com reports. He registered just one tackle and no other significant stats. Lawson is a starter on the depth chart and there will certainly be games where he sees the field more than this, but let this be a reminder that Rex Ryan defenses use a number of interchangeable parts. Unless it's one of the stars or three-down players, best not to get involved from an IDP perspective.
Several Bills who were on the injury report are active for Monday's game against the Jets in Detroit. The group includes cornerback Ron Brooks (groin), kicker Dan Carpenter (groin), wideout Chris Hogan (hip), defensive end Manny Lawson (ankle) and guard Kraig Urbik (shoulder).
The Bills have ruled out Jarius Wynn (knee) for Monday's game against the Jets. Ron Brooks (groin) and Fred Jackson (groin) were deemed as questionable for Week 12. Meanwhile, the following players were ruled as probable: Dan Carpenter (groin), Marquise Goodwin (ankle), Chris Hogan (hip), Manny Lawson (ankle), Kyle Orton (toe), Frank Summers (neck), Kraig Urbik (shoulder) and Sammy Watkins (groin).
Despite a successful first season in the middle of the Bills defense, Kiko Alonso won't play there in 2014. That's according to Bills GM Doug Whaley, who said on WGR 550 AM that Alonso will move to weak-side linebacker in 2014 with new linebacker Keith Rivers playing at the strong side. So who will man the middle? The Bills are hosting free-agent candidates but Whaley seems to think that "guys on campus" will get a crack at it first. Ty Powell was someone Whaley named specifically. As for linebacker Manny Lawson, Whaley said he'd like to see him become a "hybrid" player, which ESPN believes is code for a diminishing role.
Bills linebacker Manny Lawson totaled five tackles (three solo), one sack and one fumble recovery during a 37-14 win Week 11 vs. N.Y. Jets. He's now up to 52 tackles (37 solo) and two sacks in 10 games.
