Matthews is expected to move back to his preferred outside linebacker position beginning in OTAs this week, ESPN.com reports. Matthews spent the past season-and-a-half filling in at inside linebacker quite successfully, but is expected to return to his usual edge-rushing position this season. That switch back to outside linebacker should begin in OTAs this week, when rookie Blake Martinez's presence gives the Packers another option to play inside. With projected starters Sam Barrington and Jake Ryan also around, Matthews should be able to play outside on a nearly full-time basis this season, which figures to boost his pass-rushing numbers after a reduced tally of 6.5 sacks last term.
Matthews had four tackles (two solo), 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in Sunday's Wild Card win over the Redskins. It was Matthews' third multiple sack performance of the season and the first since Oct. 11. He appears to be returning to full form since suffering ankle and knee injuries in Week 8, which he has played through all season. In the three games leading up to Sunday's victory, Matthews totaled 3 tackles and a sack.
Matthews (ankle) is active for Sunday's contest in Arizona, Duke Bobber of the Packers' official site reports. Matthews' workload topped all Packers linebackers last Sunday at Oakland, earning 72 of 77 defensive snaps, yet he failed to pick up any counting stats. Meanwhile, the Cardinals' offensive line has surrendered just 23 sacks in 14 games this season, which places another damper on Matthews' potential.
Matthews (ankle) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Matthews was slowed by his ankle injury again this week, but he is set to start at middle linebacker in Week 16 like he usually does.
Matthews (ankle) is active for Sunday's contest at Oakland, Duke Bobber of the Packers' official site reports. Matthews collected his first sack since Week 5 last Sunday, taking down Matt Cassel in the process. The move to inside linebacker has quelled his pass-rushing chops, but Matthews has still contributed 5.5 sacks in 13 games this season.
