  • Shaun Suisham: Released by Steelers
    By RotoWire Staff

Suisham was released by the Steelers on Friday. The Steelers revealed that Suisham suffered a setback in his recovery from knee surgery and will be sidelined a while longer, which prompted them to give him his release and free up a roster spot. With Suisham no longer on the roster, Chris Boswell is the clear favorite to open the season as the Steelers' kicker.

  • Suisham is still recovering from a torn ACL on his non-kicking leg, which ended his 2015-16 season, Mark Kaboly of TribLive.com reports. Suisham has yet to attempt a kick due to the injury he suffered over 10 months ago and is unsure if he'll be ready by the end of July for training camp. Chris Boswell, who is heading into his second season, filled in for Suisham last season, converting 36 of 39 field-goal attempts and 27 of 28 extra-point attempts. The two are expected to compete for the stating job, but even if Suisham isn't able to win back the gig he's held for three seasons, he could find his way onto another team's roster given his impressive track record.

  • Suisham (knee) will have to fend off competition for the Steelers' kicking job, Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Susiham suffered a torn ACL in his non-kicking knee in August, causing him to miss the entire 2015 season. Rookie replacement Chris Boswell filled in more than capably, converting 36 of his 39 field-goal attempts and 27 of his 28 extra-point attempts between the regular season and playoffs. Suisham was excellent from 2012 to 2014, so he should at least have the opportunity to win back his job. Even if Boswell wins the battle, Suisham might find a landing spot with a different team.

  • Suisham (knee) suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in the first game of the pre-season, resulting in his missing the entire 2015 season. With the success of rookie Chris Boswell, and considering that Suisham is owed over $10.5 million over the next three seasons while Boswell has one year remaining at $525,000, it remains to be seen if Suisham has played his last game as a Steeler.
