The Panthers put tight end Richie Brockel (ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season, and re-signed cornerback James Dockery, the team announced. Dockery played in five games for Carolina last year and was cut right before this season.
Running backs DeAngelo Williams (ankle) and Jonathan Stewart (knee) headline a trio of injured players on the inactive list issued Sunday by the Panthers for the game against Chicago. Also hurt is tight end/fullback Richie Brockel (ankle). The healthy scratches are quarterback Joe Webb, safety Tre Boston, linebacker D.J. Smith and guard Andrew Norwell.
Defensive end Charles Johnson (hip) is one of two Panthers deemed questionable for the Sunday battle against visiting Chicago. The other is tight end Ed Dickson, who is also dealing with a hip issue. Ruled out are tight end Richie Brockel (ankle) and running back DeAngelo Williams. Fellow running back Jonathan Stewart (knee) is doubtful while linebacker Thomas Davis (hip), cornerback Melvin White (thigh) and running back Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) are all probable.
The Panthers re-signed tight end/fullback Richie Brockel to a two-year contract and guard Garry Williams to a one-year deal.
Panthers fullback Richie Brockel, running back Armond Smith and wide receiver Domenik Hixon all had very minor contributions Week 3 vs. N.Y. Giants. Brockel had one rush for 1 yard, Smith had three carries for zero yards and Hixon had one catch for 8 yards. The Panthers are on a bye Week 4 and return to action Week 5 at Arizona.
