Chicago Bears center Will Montgomery suffered a fractured left tibia in Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders and has been placed on season-ending injured reserve, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Montgomery, who signed a one-year contract with the Bears this offseason due in large part with his familiarity with coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase from his days in Denver, started the first four games at center for the Bears.
The team is expected to replace him in the lineup with rookie Hroniss Grasu , who has been inactive for all four games, or move left guard Matt Slauson over to center.
The Chicago Bears announced Thursday they released longtime center Roberto Garza . The team also announced they signed center Will Montgomery to a one-year contract.
Garza, who was a fourth-round pick of the Falcons in 2001, has been with the Bears since 2005. He has appeared in 206 games in his 14-year career and has started 176 times. He has only missed six starts the last nine seasons, including four in 2014 due to an ankle injury.
The Bears will be Montgomery's fifth team since being selected in the seventh round in 2006 by the Panthers. He has also played for the Jets, Redskins and Broncos, where he played in 2014 under new Bears coach John Fox. Montgomery has appeared in 106 games (71 starts).
The Denver Broncos will head into their divisional round playoff matchup with the Colts relatively healthy. Defensive tackle Mitch Unrein (knee) and linebacker Brandon Marshall (foot) are considered questionable. Quanterus Smith has been declared out with a knee injury.
David Bruton (concussion/neck), Paul Cornick (toe), Orlando Franklin (concussion), Peyton Manning (thigh), Will Montgomery (knee), Aqib Talib (Achilles), Julius Thomas (ankle), Demaryius Thomas (ankle/finger), Juwan Thompson (hip/knee), T.J. Ward (neck), and Kayvon Webster (shoulder) are all considered probable for Sunday's game.
The Broncos are currently 7-point favorites against the Colts.
The Denver Broncos will have both Peyton Manning and Emmanuel Sanders Week 17 against the Raiders.
Manning came into the contest listed as probable due to a thigh injury. He was never really expected to miss the contest. Sanders was listed as questionable with a hip issue. He was a limited participant in practice all week.
The team will also have nearly all of their probable players. That means C.J. Anderson , Lamin Barrow , David Bruton Jr., Ryan Clady , Chris Clark , Ronnie Hillman , Will Montgomery , Manny Ramirez , Jacob Tamme , Demaryius Thomas , Julius Thomas , Kayvon Webster and Derek Wolfe will all attempt to play.
The Denver Broncos have ruled out linebacker Brandon Marshall (foot) for Sunday's regular season finale against Oakland. Defensive back T.J. Ward (neck), tackle Paul Cornick (toe) and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (hip) were deemed questionable, while 16 players were deemed probable.
