The Bucs waived LeFevour on Wednesday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The 29-year-old joined the Bucs on an undisclosed contract back in April, but with room needed for newly-signed OL Caylin Hauptmann, the team deemed him expendable. With Jameis Winston, Mike Glennon and Ryan Griffin ahead of him on the depth chart, LeFevour was seeing considerably limited reps in practice, and would have been a long shot to make the final roster had he hung on through the preseason.
The Bucs have signed LeFevour to an undisclosed contract, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The 29-year-old veteran passer spent the last four seasons in the CFL, and played under the tutelage of Bucs quarterback coach Mike Bajakian when the latter served as his offensive coordinator and position coach in his last three seasons at Central Michigan. The 6'8 LeFevour accounted for 15,853 total yards and 150 total touchdowns from 2006-09 at the school, and has 16 touchdowns to his credit during part-time action with the Hamilton Tiger Cats and Montreal Alouettes north of the border over the last four seasons. Although he has never played an NFL snap, the versatile quarterback has professional ties to additional Bucs coaches past and present; he was drafted by the Bears and former Tampa head coach Lovie Smith in 2010, and worked with new head coach Dirk Koetter for the last six weeks of the 2011 NFL season when he was the No. 3 quarterback for the Jaguars and Koetter served as the team's offensive coordinator. LeFevour joins starter Jameis Winston and backups Mike Glennon and Ryan Griffin on the roster, and in addition to serving as training camp depth, could offer the Bucs the necessary flexibility to act on any trade offers for Glennon.
On Monday the Jaguars released quarterback Dan LeFevour, safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, receiver Nelson Rosario, receiver Jarrett Boykin and defensive end Frank Trotter.
Jacksonville signed QB Dan LeFevour off Indianapolis' practice squad on Friday. LeFevour will take the roster spot of DB Derek Cox, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury.
Notable cuts made by the Bengals on Saturday include: DE Victor Adeyanju, FB Fui Vakapuna, CB Brandon Ghee, QB Dan LeFevour, CB Rico Murray, TE John Nalbone, DT Jason Shirley, FB James Develin, CB David Pender, DE James Ruffin, WR Calvin Russell, DT Cornell Banks, LB DeQuin Evans, RB Jay Finley, RB John Griffin, WR Andrew Hawkins, CB Korey Lindsey and K Thomas Weber.
