    Dolphins sign LB as Dannell Ellerbe heads to IR

    Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said starting linebacker Dannell Ellerbe will be placed on injured reserve after suffering a hip injury Sunday against the Patriots, according to The Palm Beach Post. It is believed Ellerbe will be placed on season-ending injured reserve and not placed on short-term IR, which would allow him to return this season. The Dolphins will sign Kelvin Sheppard to take Ellerbe's spot on the roster.

    Colts cuts knock down roster to required 53

    The Colts have pared down their roster to 53 on Saturday by cutting 17 players and making other moves. The offensive players on the list are running back David Fluellen, quarterback Chandler Harnish, wide receivers Ryan Lankford and Josh Lenz, center FN Lutz, tight ends Weslye Saunders and Erik Swoope and guard Josh Walker. The defensive players let go by Indianapolis are ends Gannon Conway and Tyler Hoover, linebackers Rob Ruggiero, Kelvin Sheppard, Phillip Hunt and Andrew Jackson, safety Dewey McDonald, tackles Brandon McKinney and Nnamdi Obukwelu and cornerback Sheldon Price.     Kelvin Sheppard doesn't survive final Colts cuts

    Linebacker Kelvin Sheppard has been sent packing by the Colts. Sheppard has been a strong contributor in each of his three seasons in the NFL. He played in 15 games a year ago with Indianapolis and was in on 46 tackles.
