Packers' Andrew Quarless: Placed on IR

Quarless (knee) was placed on season-ending injured reserve Friday. Quarless missed the vast majority of this season due to a knee issue, which required fluid draining earlier this week. With concerns over his health and effectiveness going forward, the Packers decided to shut Quarless down for the year, opening the door for Justin Perillo to serve as Richard Rodgers' main backup at tight end ahead of Saturday's playoff game in Arizona.

Packers' Andrew Quarless: Headed to injured reserve

Quarless (knee) will be placed on injured reserve by the Packers, the ESPN reports. Quarless posted on Instagram on Thursday that his "season has come to an end not by my choice," and he's expected to be placed on injured reserve at some point Friday. Quarless reportedly had fluid drained from his knee recently, an issue that stems back to an early-season injury that landed him on the injured reserve/designated to return list after Week 3. The sixth-year tight end was a limited participant in practice both Wednesday and Thursday, but the Packers were apparently not convinced about his health and will likely hand his roster spot to another receiver or tight end for the team's Divisional Round matchup against the Cardinals on Saturday.

Packers' Andrew Quarless: Catches two passes in return to action

Quarless caught two passes for 17 yards in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. Playing in his first game Sunday since Week 3, Quarless -- although not by much -- topped fellow tight end Richard Rodgers in both receptions and yards. Quarless could see more snaps in Week 17 with a game under his belt, but he will take on a Vikings team that has routinely shut down opposing tight ends of late.

Report: Packers' Andrew Quarless activated from short-term IR

Quarless (knee) was activated from the IR/designated-to-return list Monday, Rob Demovsky of reports. Quarless is set to make his first appearance since suffering a sprained MCL in Week 3. During his absence, Richard Rodgers has taken control of the starting TE spot, but Quarless could make an immediate impact in the red zone, where he picked up 15 targets in 16 games last season.

Packers' Andrew Quarless: not activated for Week 14

Quarless (knee) did not play in Sunday's victory over the Cowboys. Quarless resumed practicing a couple weeks ago, but he was apparently not ready for game action just yet, as he remained on short-term injured reserve for Week 13. There is a chance he could be activated for the Packers' next game Sunday against the Raiders.

Packers' Andrew Quarless: Progressing in practice this week

Quarless (knee) continued to participate in practice this week, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. After Wednesday's practice, Quarless said, "I'm practicing hard. Practice this week has been going real good, a lot better than last week. It's definitely something to look forward to." Quarless wasn't listed on the Packers' injury report to start the week, as he remains on the IR/designated-to-return list, but his comments seem to indicate that he could be activated in advance of Sunday's game against the Cowboys. If the Packers can't warrant the roster spot on game day, though, he'll have one more week to prove that he can play again this season.

Packers' Andrew Quarless: Won't be activated for Thursday's game

Quarless (knee) won't be activated for Thursday's game at Detroit, Rob Demovsky of reports. Once the Packers cleared Quarless to take part in practice Monday, he was able to handle some reps each day this week, but it wasn't enough to appease the mind of the training and medical staffs. His next chance to return to action arrives on Dec. 13 against the Cowboys.

Packers' Andrew Quarless: Sentenced to probation

Quarless (knee) was sentenced to one-year of probation for a July incident in which he discharged a firearm in public, Rob Demovsky of reports. With the justice system handing down its decision, the NFL will likely weigh in on the matter in due time, potentially in the form of a suspension. Legal woes aside, he returned to practice Monday, but the Packers weren't required to release an official designation, as he remains on the IR/designated-to-return list. If he makes the requisite progress this week, he could suit up Thursday at Detroit for the first time since Week 3.

Packers' Andrew Quarless: Will practice Monday

Quarless (knee) will return to practice Monday. Quarless hasn't practiced since spraining his MCL during Week 3, but will re-join his teammates ahead of Thursday's game in Detroit. While the limited time before that game could make Quarless hard-pressed to play, it's at least encouraging to hear that he should be back in action before long.

Packers' Andrew Quarless: Not yet cleared for practice

Quarless (knee) hasn't been cleared to return to practice, Rob Demovsky of reports. "He will not practice today; he won't be activated today," said head coach Mike McCarthy on Sunday. "But maybe this week. That's kind of where we are." Although Quarless was eligible to return Thursday against the Bears, he hasn't recovered from the sprained MCL suffered in Week 3 and won't take the practice field Sunday. Even if he makes an appearance in drills in advance of this Thursday's game in Detroit, the Packers are apt to exercise caution rather than throw the tight end into the fire in Week 13, especially with 10 days before the team's next tilt. In the meantime, Richard Rodgers and Justin Perillo will continue to handle TE reps.
