49ers' Torrey Smith: Hauls in five passes

Smith (back) hauled in five catches (seven targets) for 61 yards in Sunday's overtime win over the Rams. The five catches were Smith's highest total since his 6-catch, 120-yard performance in week 2. That stat goes to show what a disappointing first season it has been in a San Francisco uniform. Smith's big-play style never seemed to mesh with the 49ers' vanilla offensive gameplan this season, and he finished with less than 700 receiving yards for the first time in his career. With four more years left on his contract, the team will have to find a better way to incorporate their biggest free agent acquisition from last offseason. Maybe the new coaching regime will open up the playbook a little more for 2016 and beyond.

49ers' Torrey Smith: Listed as active Sunday

Smith (back/foot) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Rams. Smith has scored in two of his last four games, but with just seven catches in that span, the wideout continues to be a hit-or-miss fantasy lineup option.

49ers' Torrey Smith: Probable for Sunday

Smith (back/foot) is listed as probable for Sunday's contest against the Rams, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports. Despite turning in a limited practice Thursday, Smith will avoid the inactive list yet again. While he's gathered in no more than two catches in all but two games this season, his Week 17 opponent, the Rams, has conceded 88 receptions and eight touchdown grabs to wideouts over the last six outings.

    49ers' Torrey Smith: Limited Thursday

Smith (back/foot) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports. Following a downgrade from full to limited to begin the week of prep, Smith's practice reps have been impacted for the fourth consecutive week. He's so far avoided the inactive list on every game day of his career, but Friday's injury report will provide insight into whether he'll extend that trend.

49ers' Torrey Smith: Finds endzone in loss

Smith was targeted three times, catching two of them for 23 yards and a score in Sunday's loss to the Lions. Smith saved what would have been another disappointing day at the office with a 16-yard touchdown grab in the second quarter. He was always considered a boom-or-bust option at wide receiver, but the 49ers' lackluster quarterback play has resulted in more "bust" performances from Smith this year. He should only be deployed in desperate situations next week against the Rams.

    49ers' Torrey Smith: Active Sunday

Smith (back) is listed as active Sunday in Detroit. Building up practice reps during the week helped Smith avoid the first DNP of his career. However, he's caught no more than two balls in any of Blaine Gabbert's six starts, accumulating 10 receptions (on 20 targets) for 236 yards and one touchdown in that span.

49ers' Torrey Smith: Probable for Week 16

Smith (back) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Lions. Smith practiced fully Friday after sitting out Wednesday's practice and being limited at Thursday's, setting the stage for him to take the field in Week 16. While Smith is set to be out there Sunday, he will be a risky fantasy play, having topped 50 receiving yards just twice since tallying 96 yards against his former Ravens squad in Week 6.

    49ers' Torrey Smith: Limited Thursday

Smith (back/foot) was limited in practice Thursday, John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game San Francisco reports. Smith seems to have entered the maintenance portion of the regular season with two games remaining. Aside from the occasional yet lengthy scoring strike, he doesn't hold a lot of sway due to a meager target count that ranges from 3-to-5 looks most weeks. If he suits up Sunday, he'll take on a Lions defense that could be without Glover Quin, while also conceding 12.3 YPC and 12 touchdowns to wideouts to this point in the season.

49ers' Torrey Smith: DNP on Wednesday

Smith (back/foot) was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's injury report, the 49ers' official site reports. For the third week in a row, Smith appears to be logging precautionary absences at practice, which should be confirmed by week's end. In the previous two games, he upheld his explosive standard but only hauled in three of seven targets for 50 yards, which equates to a miserable 7.1 YPT.

    49ers' Torrey Smith: Active Sunday

Smith (back/toe) is listed as active Sunday against the Bengals, John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game San Francisco reports. Smith has averaged a mere three targets per game with Blaine Gabbert under center, and to make matters worse, the fifth-year wide receiver was contained to one limited practice this week as a result of back and toe injuries. Consequently, Smith may not find much room to operate versus a Cincinnati defense that's given up 9.3 YPC and no touchdowns to wideouts over the last three contests.
