S Mike Mitchell could switch positions

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin brought up the possibility of moving Mike Mitchell from free safety to strong safety, according to ESPN. Tomlin said he is "not opposed" to the switch. Mitchell, who signed a five-year, $25 million contract in 2014, could take over the role at strong safety due to the team moving on from long-time Steeler Troy Polamalu. Report: Steelers restructure Marcus Gilbert, Mike Mitchell contracts

The Steelers created $6.2 million in cap space by restructuring two contracts, according to a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Tackle Marcus Gilbert and safety Mike Mitchell had tweaks made to their contracts that won't affect their income for the 2015 season. However, the money they were slated to make from their salaries and roster bonuses are being applied as signing bonuses to free up cap space for the upcoming league year. The restructured signing bonuses will be prorated and affect their cap number for future seasons. The restructured deals were likely done to help free up money to re-sign linebacker Jason Worilds, linebacker Arthur Moats and cornerback Brice McCain.
