Saints' Tim Hightower: Expanded role due to Ingram knock

Hightower saw his first action of the season in Sunday's loss to the Redskins, carrying 11 times for 46 yards. After the season-ending injury to Khiry Robinson, the recently-signed veteran entered Sunday's game when Mark Ingram was digned up in the first half. Ingram was able to return to the game, and Hightower saw just four carries the rest of the way. Hightower should see a handful of touches per game as Ingram's new backup, but Sunday's output is likely a best-case scenario concerning his weekly potential. The Saints will enjoy a Week 11 bye before traveling to Houston the following Sunday.

Saints' Tim Hightower: Signs with Saints

The Saints signed Hightower on Monday, Evan Woodbery of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. During Sunday's win against the Giants, the Saints' backfield suffered the loss of pass-catching back Khiry Robinson, who has already undergone surgery to repair a broken tibia. Hightower previously displayed some chops as a receiver, racking up 128 receptions in 53 career games between 2008 and 2011. However, he made his last appearance in 2011, so expectations should be tempered in the Saints' upcoming outings.

    Hightower to visit Giants

The New York Daily News reports that former Redskins running back Tim Hightower is expected to visit Giants this weekend. Hightower, 26, was once a promising back who scored 23 touchdowns in his first three NFL seasons. But he hasn't played a regular season game in 17 months since tearing his left ACL in Oct., 2011. The Giants seem set at the top of their depth chart at running back, with last year's No. 1 pick David Wilson and Andre Brown - a restricted free agent who has yet to sign his tender - set to battle for the starting job. But if healthy, the 6-foot, 220-pound Hightower could compete for the third spot with Ryan Torain (his former backup in Washington) and Da'Rel Scott, who missed most of last season after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
