Bills' Josh Johnson: One step away?

With EJ Manuel inactive for Thursday's game at the Jets, Johnson will serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Tyrod Taylor. We're not sure if the Bills are just about done with Manuel and his inconsistent play or if Johnson - signed as a free agent a month ago - has started showing enough in practices that the Bills decided to make a change in the pecking order. For now, if your league goes deep enough to where backup quarterbacks matter, Johnson looks like the direct insurance behind the surprisingly capable Taylor.

    Josh Johnson: Signs with Bills

Johnson agreed to a contract with the Bills on Tuesday. After spending the last two weeks as quarterback insurance for the Colts, Johnson will head to Buffalo to do the same. Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor (ankle) is banged up and uncertain to play this week, and if he is unable to go, EJ Manuel would start for the Bills and Johnson would serve as Manual's backup.

Bengals sign backup quarterback Josh Johnson

The Bengals signed veteran backup quarterback Josh Johnson on Thursday, the organization announced.
