Colts' Dwayne Allen: Assured of larger role

Colts offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski assured Allen that his role will change in 2016, according to Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star. Despite catching just 16 passes in 13 games last season, Allen recently re-signed with the Colts for $29.4 million over four years. He's a strong inline blocker with solid receiving skills, but he never topped 66 targets while sharing playing time with Coby Fleener the past four years. If Fleener isn't re-signed, Allen could see a major bump in targets next season, potentially filling a three-down role.

Colts' Dwayne Allen: Re-signs with Colts

Allen re-signed with the Colts on Monday, picking up a four-year, $29.4 million contract, Josina Anderson of ESPN reports. Both Allen and fellow Colts tight end Coby Fleener entered the offseason as unrestricted free agents, but Allen was the first, and perhaps only, one to come to terms. Considering the contract includes $12 million for the first year and $5 million more for the second, Allen appears to have won the long-term battle of 2012 draft picks, though Fleener could also re-up on a lesser deal. In any case, Allen will look to harken back to the 2014 season, when he gathered in 29 of 50 passes for 395 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games.

Colts' Dwayne Allen: Lands on IR

Allen (calf) has been placed on IR by the Colts. In a corresponding move, the Colts promoted fellow tight end Erik Swoope to their 53-man roster, while Allen's disappointing 2015 campaign concludes with a modest total of 16 catches for 109 yards and one TD in 13 games.

Colts' Dwayne Allen: Records one catch against Steelers

Allen pulled in his lone target of the game for a six-yard reception in Sunday's loss to the Steelers. After recording more targets than his counterpart, Coby Fleener, for just the second time of the season in Week 12's victory over Tampa Bay, Allen returned to the role of Robin on Sunday against Pittsburgh. Allen wasn't a prolific receiver in 2014 either, never hauling in more than four passes in a game, but he remained a fantasy threat by posting eight touchdowns. Allen hasn't found the end zone since Week 1 of this season, thus eliminating his fantasy value.

Colts' Dwayne Allen: Just two receptions

Allen had two receptions for 19 yards in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. He was targeted four times. Allen has been a non-factor in the Indy passing game most of the season, but the four targets are the second most he's had in a game this year.

Colts' Dwayne Allen: Has just one reception

Allen had just one reception for seven yards and was targeted just one time in Sunday's win at Atlanta. A change to Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback didn't alter Allen's role in the passing game as he's largely been invisible the past seven games. Allen has just 12 targets in his last seven games.

Colts' Dwayne Allen: Held without a catch

Allen was targeted three times but did not have a reception in Sunday's win over Denver. Allen has become a non-factor in the Indy passing game as he has just 11 targets in his past six games. Unfortunately that trend didn't change in the first game under new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski.

Colts' Dwayne Allen: Has just once catch

Allen had one reception for ten yards and was targeted just once in Sunday's loss to New Orleans. With fellow tight end Coby Fleener healthy and the Indy passing game struggling, Allen isn't getting many targets or red zone opportunities.

Colts TE Dwayne Allen snags three receptions in loss Sunday

Colts tight end Dwayne Allen had three receptions for 23 yards, catching all three balls thrown his way, in Sunday's loss to New England. Allen had just four receptions in two games since returning from an ankle injury as Indy hasn't been utilizing the tight ends as much recently in the offense. Coby Fleener had three receptions Sunday and has just five receptions the past two games.

Colts TE Dwayne Allen listed as active

Colts tight end Dwayne Allen (ankle) is listed as active for Thursday's game against the Texans. Though Allen is out there if you need him, the presence of fellow TE Coby Fleener makes Allen a hit-or-miss fantasy lineup option in his return to action on Thursday.
