    Texans dump Brandon Harris Friday

The Texans have waived cornerback Brandon Harris on Friday, according to Comcast SportsNet Houston. Harris was a 2011 second-round pick out of the University of Miami that never started a game in Houston.

  • Texans address secondary in draft

News: The Texans spent all but two picks on the defensive side of the ball in April's draft, and they selected three players to help in their porous secondary. Miami CB Brandon Harris (Round 2), Virginia Tech CB Rashad Carmichael (Round 4) and Idaho SS Shiloh Keo (Round 5) were added to a rebuilding Texans defense. The 5-foot-9, 191-pound Harris started 32 games for Miami and intercepted four balls and broke up 28 passes in three seasons with the Hurricanes. Carmichael deflected 16 passes and intercepted nine in his college career. Keo intercepted 11 passes and made 358 tackles in 55 career games at Idaho. He also returned kicks in college, and set a school record with 585 punt-return yards.
Analysis: Harris and Carmichael have the potential to be good pros, with Harris the more appealing Fantasy cornerback. He should see playing time early on and that should result in getting challenged by opposing quarterbacks. There could be some nice stats there for owners to pick up on. Carmichael and Keo aren't expected to see much action this season, but given the limited talent in the Houston secondary they could get a shot if they have a good training camp. Harris is the only guy worth drafting in seasonal leagues (late-round pick). We'd take Harris with a middle- to late-round pick in dynasty/keeper leagues and rookie-only drafts. Carmichael and Keo are late-round fliers in rookie-only drafts.
