Chiefs CB Sanders Commings to put injury-plagued season behind him

Chiefs cornerback Sanders Commings saw his season get ended by a teammate in embarrassing fashion last year. Running back Jamaal Charles used a juke move on Commings in practice that literally broke a bone in his foot. Now, Commings is fully healthy and putting that play and last season in the rear view mirror. "Yeah, yeah, it was (a great play)," Commings said. "He's one of the top running backs in the league. I forgot all about that. I'm about the future." The 25-year-old knows that in order to succeed in the NFL as a cornerback he needs to worry about what's always happening in the now and not dwell on the past. "I'm not holding back," Commings said. "My position, DB, is all about having a short memory. So those injuries are things of the past."

Sanders Commings could start for Chiefs next season

The potential loss of starting free safety Kendrick Lewis to free agency could thrust Sanders Commings into that role barring a trade or free agent acquisition, the Kansas City Star has speculated. Commings, who played mostly cornerback at Georgia before being selected in the fifth round of the 2013 draft by the Chiefs, was beset by injuries in his rookie year. But the team felt strongly enough about him to place the short-term injury-reserve tag on him after he broke his collarbone in training camp. He played in just two games before a shoulder injury ended his season, but the Chiefs reportedly like his speed and range enough to consider him a possible starter in 2014.
