The former tight end struggled initially to adjust to his new role as a tackle, but he's improved drastically and he along with his coaches have taken notice. "I remember how out of place I felt," said Williams, who moved from tight end to offensive tackle last offseason. "But now I feel like I'm at the right position. I feel like I'm in place. I feel like I'm impressing coaches, and impressing myself." Williams spent last season as a member of the Lions' practice squad.

    The Lions have announced all their cuts in getting their roster down to 53. The offensive players released are fullback Chad Abram, quarterback James Franklin, linemen Michael Williams, Garrett Reynolds and Darren Keyton, wide receiver Kris Durham, running backs George Winn and Michael Egnew. The defenders gone are cornerbacks Chris Greenwood, Mohammed Seisay, Nate Ness, Aaron Hester and Jonte Green, end Darryl Tapp and linebacker Shamari Benton. Placekicker Giorgio Tavecchio and punter Drew Butler have also been cut.

    The Lions will move tight end Michael Williams to offensive tackle, the Oakland Press reports. Williams is 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds and best known for his blocking, not for his receiving skills. He was a late-round draft pick of the Lions last year.

    Rookie Michael Williams says he's improved

    Lions seventh-round pick Michael Williams told the official team website he feels as if he's improved his development just by going through the offseason practices. Williams is hoping to be a dual threat as a blocker and a receiver for Detroit. "I've grown tremendously, just through these 10 organized team activities and two minicamps," Williams said. "I think my coaches see it -- I see it -- and I feel it. I feel myself coming out of breaks faster. I feel myself coming downhill when I get out of those breaks. It's those little things that make a route, or a route combination work. I feel like I've gotten 10 times better from when OTAs started." Williams had 51 career receptions in college for 503 yards (9.9 avg.) and seven touchdowns.
