    Falcons sign two, waive two

The Falcons have announced the signing of running back Michael Ford and tight end DJ Tialavea. They have also waived/injured tight end Beau Gardner and released wide receiver Freddie Martino. Ka'Deem Carey sees field ahead of Michael Ford in opener

Bears running backs Ka'Deem Carey and Michael Ford got their first chances to battle for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart Friday, in the preseason opener against the Eagles. Neither player stood out, though Carey appears to be ahead on the depth chart as he saw most of his action in the first half. He rushed the ball 10 times for just 23 yards while failing to bring in the one pass thrown his way, while Ford had just 15 yards on his five carries.

Ka'Deem Carey, Michael Ford to battle for No. 2 job

The Bears are trying to figure out who will be No. 2 on the depth chart at running back behind Matt Forte, reports ESPN. The battle will likely come down to second-year running back Michael Ford and rookie fourth-round pick Ka'Deem Carey . The report said it's likely Carey will be given more opportunities than Ford to win the backup job, but Carey's got to win the position. "I don't feel any pressure. I like to have fun, and when I have fun, I play my best," Carey said. "If I get worked up about trying to compete and trying to show what I've got, then I will just show out bad. I want to perform how I know how to perform. I walk around with a smile, and I have fun, and I perform." The report says undrafted rookie Jordan Lynch is a darkhorse candidate for the No. 2 job but probably will end up on the practice squad.

Bears looking for help behind Matt Forte

The Bears plan to add a running back either through the draft or free agency to help ease the workload for Matt Forte, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. No running back in the NFL touched the ball more than Forte in 2013. He had 289 carries and 74 receptions, setting career highs with 1,339 rushing yards and 594 receiving yards. This offseason, the Bears cut Michael Bush, but all they have now behind Forte is Shaun Draughn, who had four rushes last season, to join Michael Ford, who spent his rookie year on special teams. The reports says that either through the draft or with a late free-agent pickup, the Bears need a complementary piece, but one who, were Forte to be injured, could carry the load.

Bears could make change at No. 2 running back

Bears running back Michael Bush could be replaced this offseason based on his poor play in 2013 and his salary for next year, reports ESPN. The report says Bush is scheduled to make $3.85 million in 2014, but the Bears might want an upgrade at the No. 2 running back spot behind Matt Forte because Bush's "contributions aren't commensurate" to his cap figure. One option for the Bears to fill that role in house could be Michael Ford. He did well in training camp last season -- he tied Forte for the team lead in preseason rushing -- but the report says he needs to improve his pass protection.
