Packers safety rotation could change in preseason

Packers defensive back Morgan Burnett will sit out Saturday's preseason opener against the Titans, reports ESPN.com Friday. The report also indicates that there is a chance Burnett can lose his starting job, with rookie Ha Ha Clinton-Dix expected to step in while Burnett is out. Micah Hyde is also making a transition from cornerback and has reportedly impressed coaches. Coach Mike McCarthy did note that he considers Burnett a starter, but that doesn't mean he will dominate the playing time. "We don't get caught on 11 players, especially [when] the emphasis for our whole defense is to play more players," McCarthy said.

Mike McCarthy wants to see more of Micah Hyde

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he wants defensive back Micah Hyde on the field all the time. As a rookie Hyde served as the No. 3 corner and made 55 tackles, adding two passes defended and a forced fumble. "As far as Micah Hyde, I'm going to say it again, make sure we're clear: Micah Hyde deserves the opportunity to be an every-down player on our defense," McCarthy said, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "And as we go into 2014, that's our responsibility as a coaching staff to create those competitive opportunities for him to get that done."I got to a point in the season where Micah was standing on the sidelines too much. He's a good football player and I thought he deserved the opportunity to compete to play. And it's tough to do when you're a rookie because you get into camp and you're trying to build packages. … We're going to give Micah the opportunity to play on all three downs – whether that's corner, nickel, dime, safety, that's the versatility I think he brings to our football team."
