Eagles DE Fletcher Cox breaks out with three sacks in Week 5 win

Eagle defensive end Fletcher Cox had his biggest game of the season, picking up three sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in Sunday's 39-17 win over the Saints. Cox has long been adored by coaches and media types, but his stat sheet explosion against Drew Brees and the Saints could put him on the national radar for good. He dominated a depleted New Orleans offensive line, and has looked stronger with each week after a mediocre Week 1. He's an IDP with strong upside to keep an eye on. As the Eagles' offense improves, the defense will see less extended time on the field, which means fewer drives like they one they allowed against Washington in Week 4 and more opportunities for Cox to burst through offensive lines.

Eagles DST generates a couple turnovers

The Eagles DST forced two turnovers but got no sacks in Monday's 30-27 win in Indianapolis. Philly allowed the Colts' formerly dormant rushing game to pile up 169 yards on the ground. Defensive end Fletcher Cox jarred the ball loose from running back Trent Richardson in the third quarter, linebacker DeMeco Ryans recovering. Safety Malcolm Jenkins intercepted Andrew Luck in the fourth quarter on a controversial play. Colts wideout T.Y. Hilton was clearly held on his route, leading to the pick. Ryans finished with a game-high 10 tackles and one of the Eagles' three quarterback hits. After failing to stop Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw, the Eagles DST will be hard-pressed to stop Redskins running back Alfred Morris in Week 3.

Eagles defense burned early, stout late

The Eagles defense looked awful in the first half of their Week 1 game agains the Jaguars, allowing 17 points to the Chad Henne-led offense. But they tightened up in the second half and held Jacksonville scoreless and even saw Fletcher Cox score on a Henne fumble to help salt the game away. The Eagles totaled three sacks with the fumble while holding the Jags to 306 total yards. Chances are the Eagles will have their hands full with a tougher opponent -- the Colts -- in Indianapolis next week.
