Christine Michael: Joins Washington's practice squad

Michael has joined Washington's practice squad. The 2013 second-rounder was unable to carve out a significant role with the Cowboys after being acquired from the Seahawks earlier this season, but he'll now provide Washington with added backfield depth in event of a running back injury.

    Christine Michael: Released by Cowboys

Michael was released by the Cowboys on Tuesday, ESPN's Todd Archer reports. A 2013 second-round selection with a rare combination of size and speed, Michael didn't get much playing time during his tenure with the Seahawks, and he was eventually traded to the Cowboys in September. He was also a non-factor in Dallas, getting just 16 touches in five appearances. Michael will surely get another shot in the NFL, but there's little reason to believe that he'll earn anything more than a reserve role.

Cowboys' Christine Michael: Only five carries for 20 yards

Michael had five carries for 20 yards and could not grab either of his two targets in Sunday's 13-12 loss to Seattle. Facing his original team, Michael was once again a non-factor, outside of a nine-yard run at one point. He also dropped at least one pass. Meanwhile, Darren McFadden handled the ball 26 times, racking up 113 yards from scrimmage. Even with Joseph Randle (oblique) inactive, Michael wasn't involved much, which doesn't inspire confidence for the rest of the season.

Cowboys' Christine Michael: Just five carries for 18 yards

Michael had just five carries for 18 yards and caught his lone target for two yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Giants. Starter Joseph Randle hurt his back early in the game, and did not return, opening the door for veteran Darren McFadden to rush for 152 yards on 29 carries. While it was disappointing to see Michael get so little work, he still received the most significant action of his Cowboys' career, ripping off a 13-yard run at one point. Michael probably offers the most long-term upside of the three runners, although he's raw and inexperienced, and the coaching staff seems to not fully trust him yet, at least based on his usage Sunday. He'll have a tough matchup in Week 8, facing a Seahawks' defense that has been above average against the run this season.

Larger workload in store for Cowboys RB Christine Michael

Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown said Thursday that the team was "going to take the reins off" running back Christine Michael, the Dallas Morning News reports. The former Seahawk has just two carries in two games this year, but with the running game and the entire offense struggling without Tony Romo (collarbone) and Dez Bryant (foot), Dallas has little to lose by giving Michael a larger workload even if he doesn't completely supplant Joseph Randle as the starter.

Cowboys RB Christine Michael could oust starter Joseph Randle

Cowboys running back Christine Michael could get the start at running back in Week 7 rather than Joseph Randle, per ESPN Dallas. The Cowboys are already switching quarterbacks during their bye week, and are apparently considering other major changes to the offense as well as they prepare to face the Giants next weekend. The backfield picture should become clearer over the coming days, but if you have a bench spot available, stashing Michael now could pay big dividends. Michael had just two rushing attempts in two games this year, but owns a 4.8 yards-per-carry average over his career.

Cowboys RB Christine Michael rushes once against New England

Cowboys running back Christine Michael carried the ball once for six yards in Sunday's loss to the Patriots. Michael did not see an increased role in Dallas' offense following the injury to fellow back Lance Dunbar as the Cowboys seemed content with sticking to Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden. Dallas traded for Michael, who rushed for over five yards per carry in limited opportunities last season, to provide another option in a backfield without a sure thing. With Randle and McFadden, Week 3 aside, failing to set the world on fire, Michael may not be worth a pickup, but could be worth monitoring week to week.

Cowboys RB Christine Michael is active for Sunday's game

Cowboys running back Christine Michael is active for Sunday's game in New Orleans, David Helman of the Cowboys' official website reports. Inactive for the first three games, Michael took some first-team snaps during practice this week, but it will be surprising if he gets more than a handful of touches -- and even that may be generous -- in Sunday's game. Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar are also active, and all three are ahead of Michael on the depth chart.

Cowboys RB Christine Michael receiving work with first team in practice

Cowboys running back Christine Michael has received some snaps with the first-team offense in practice this week, reports. "We've been giving him a few more reps this week to see how he's doing. I think he's doing a great job. We're excited to see him in the future here - I don't know how near that is. We make those decisions in the next coming days. But we're excited to have him," offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said Thursday. The running back has been inactive for all three games so far since he was acquired from the Seahawks, but Michael could be getting closer to making his Cowboys debut. Joseph Randle is coming off a three-touchdown performance though, Lance Dunbar is off to an excellent start as the backfield pass-catching option and even Darren McFadden has done well when called upon, so barring an injury there wouldn't seem to be many snaps available for a fourth RB.

Cowboys might not activate Christine Michael until injury befalls RB

While running back Christine Michael was inactive for Sunday's season opener against the Giants, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said the newcomer has "made a lot of progress in a short period of time" since his acquisition from the Seahawks. Although, it seems it would take an injury to the running back trio of Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and Darren McFadden before Michael gets his chance to make an impact. "I do think if any time one of them has an injury or isn't 110 percent, then we'll see what Christine Michael has to bring to the table as well," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday during a radio interview, per The Dallas Morning News.
