Lions' Rafael Bush: Will compete for starting role

Bush will compete with Tavon Wilson for the Lions' starting job at strong safety this offseason, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. The Lions have a void to fill opposite incumbent FS Glover Quin (ankle), and Lion's GM Bob Quinn recently declared the newly-signed Bush a candidate for the gig. Tavon Wilson, the Lions' other free-agent signing at safety, appears to be Bush's main competition for the job, though Quinn didn't rule out the possibility of Detroit also adding more players to the competition as the offseason continues. For now, Bush is the favorite to win the role. He is undoubtedly the more tenured of the two, as Bush started 14 games for the Saints between 2013 and 2015, compared to Wilson's four total career starts. Should Bush win out, and avoid the injury bug that has plagued him the past two seasons, he will aim to improve a Detroit defense that surrendered a 10th-worst 25.0 points per game in 2015.
