49ers' Eric Reid: Leads team with 10 tackles

Reid turned in his best performance of the season, racking up 10 tackles (six solo) in the loss to Seattle on Sunday. Reid isn't known for having high tackle totals from the safety position, so Sunday's output was a pleasant surprise. It should be taken with a grain of salt though, as none of the 49ers' lineman or linebackers wanted any business tackling Thomas Rawls (10 missed tackles), who constantly was getting to the second level and forcing Reid to make stops. Treat this game as an anomaly and continue to view Reid as a non-factor in IDP leagues.

49ers safety Eric Reid records six tackles in Week 2

49ers safety Eric Reid led all 49ers with six tackles (all solo) in Sunday's blowout loss to the Steelers. Reid was one of several San Francisco defensive backs who were burned by Ben Roethlisberger for 369 yards Sunday. The six solo tackles were a decent consolation, but it was an overall poor showing by the 49ers' defense.

49ers nearly lost Eric Reid to retirement in offseason

While the 49ers were surprised by the untimely retirements of Chris Borland and Anthony Davis, the team nearly had a third player quit the game over the offseason. Safety Eric Reid strongly considered retiring after suffering three concussions in two years. Reid said he suffered two concussions in the first nine games of his rookie year, without missing any time. He sat out last season's final game, even though doctors had cleared him to play. Reid decided to return to the team, despite the concussion risk. "Everybody evaluates their own situation as far as playing this game," Reid told The San Francisco Chronicle. "I've evaluated mine and I've decided I still want to play." Reid said that he wouldn't necessarily retire, even if he suffered another head injury. "I'm not putting a number to it," he said. "I will continue to evaluate my own situation."
