Rams' Tre Mason: Scores TD but does little on the ground

Mason had 18 carries for 44 yards, but scored a short touchdown in Sunday's 19-16 overtime loss at San Francisco. With rookie sensation Todd Gurley (foot) inactive, Mason got a ton of work, but was unable to fully capitalize. His four-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was his first score of the season, and nearly didn't happen, as the play was designed for him to throw the ball into the end zone on a trick play. After a promising rookie season in 2014, Mason was on the bench for most of this year, as Gurley established himself as a potential star. Thus, look for Mason to head back to a reserve role in 2016, barring some sort of injury to Gurley.

Rams' Tre Mason: Opportunity knocks in Week 17

With Todd Gurley doubtful for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Mason is expected to start at running back for the Rams in Week 17, per Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. With Gurley likely to be held out of the Rams' finale with the long haul in mind, Mason figures to draw the start at running back for the team Sunday, with Benny Cunningham a candidate to see some third-down work. As a result, Mason makes for a decent Week 17 fantasy plug-in for those scrambling for an option at RB, notably those who have been rolling with Gurley of late.

Rams' Tre Mason: Three touches in win Thursday

Mason rushed three times for 13 yards Thursday in a 31-23 win against Tampa Bay. With Todd Gurley bottled up for much of the night, the Rams took to the air more than usual, leaving Mason without many touches. He has only topped 30 yards rushing once this season and has yet to find the end zone, leaving him with little fantasy value.

Rams' Tre Mason: Not much production Sunday

Mason rushed four times for 7 yards and caught a pair of passes for 1 yard in a 21-14 victory against the Lions on Sunday. Todd Gurley got going again Sunday, which left little opportunity for Mason to make much of a difference. He didn't do much with the few chances he received anyway, and will rarely see more than a few touches a game.

Rams' Tre Mason: Plays decent against Cardinals

Mason caught a pair of passes for 10 yards and rushed twice for 13 yards in Sunday's 27-3 loss against Arizona. Sunday's output was nowhere near his seven catches from the previous contest, but he's still being used intermittently. Unfortunately, even the Rams' bellcow, Todd Gurley, is not producing fantasy points which means the rest of the offense is really struggling. Unless Gurley gets hurt -- and even then it's dicey -- Mason's value is limited.

Rams' Tre Mason: Makes seven catches in loss

Mason caught all seven of his targets for 37 yards in a 31-7 loss to the Bengals on Sunday. Mason also had a carry, but lost two yards in the process. Usually Benny Cunningham is the receiver out of the backfield, but Mason showed some potential as a third-down back. He still only averaged 5.3 yards a reception and has yet to find the end zone this season, however.

Rams' Tre Mason: Benched Sunday due to violation of team rules

Head coach Jeff Fisher said that Mason was benched for Sunday's game at Baltimore due to a violation of team rules, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Mason has regularly served as Todd Gurley's primary backup since the rookie assumed the top gig, earning a handful of touches per week. For the season, Mason has recorded 44 carries for 129 yards (2.93 YPC) and six catches (on nine targets) for 37 yards. If he's disciplined further, Benny Cunningham could take over Mason's job, as he did Sunday.

Rams' Tre Mason: Inactive for Sunday's game

Mason (not injury related) is inactive for Sunday's game at Baltimore. Mason was coming off of a rather efficient showing against the Bears, and he was not on the injury report all week, so this is a surprise. Still, Todd Gurley remains the clear workhorse on this team.

Rams' Tre Mason: Efficient in limited role versus Chicago

Mason gained 31 yards on six carries and added another 16 yards on his lone reception in Sunday's game against the Bears. He also lost a fumble. The second-year back made the most of his limited touches on Sunday, accumulating his most total yards this season. The fumble won't help Mason's cause, but he is unlikely to eat into starter Todd Gurley's typically large workload anyway. Week 11 will see the Rams travel to Baltimore, where Mason should once again play a minimal role.

Rams' Tre Mason: Ineffective in Sunday's loss

Mason carried the ball three times for 3 yards and also added a catch for minus-4 yards in Sunday's 21-18 overtime loss to St. Louis. Not a good day for Mason, as the four times he touched the ball resulted in minus-1 yards. Unless Todd Gurley gets hurt, Mason will only get meaningful carries in a blowout, and that is not prone to happen in one of the league's worst offenses.
