    Panthers' Mario Addison: Active Sunday

Addison (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against the Packers. Addison, a rotational end for the Panthers, was forced to sit out Monday's win over the Colts with the shoulder issue, but looks like he made enough progress over the week to give it a go against Green Bay. The defensive end has 12 tackles and three sacks over six games this season.

Report: Panthers DE Charles Johnson could miss several weeks

Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson sustained a hamstring injury Sunday against the Saints and could miss "several" weeks, Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reports. Johnson left in the second half with only one assisted tackle on the ledger, bringing his season-long line to five tackles (two solo) and one sack. His diagnosis should be known within the the next few days, but Mario Addison and Wes Horton (shoulder) are present to pick up the slack at defensive end in Johnson's stead.

Panthers give contract extensions to three players

The Panthers extended the contracts of defensive end Mario Addison, safety Colin Jones and offensive tackle Nate Chandler. The team made the announcement on Wednesday. Jones also got a two-year extension and has similarly contributed on special teams, tallying 27 total tackles over 44 games. Chandler got a three-year extension and should begin the season as a starting tackle for the Panthers.

Panthers DST hits major speed bump in New Orleans

The Panthers DST entered Week 14 red hot and left the Superdome humiliated. The unit got picked apart by Drew Brees and the Saints, allowing a season-high 31 points. The Panthers sacked Brees twice but otherwise rarely pressured him. They did not force a turnover. New Orleans converted 7 of 12 third downs and rolled up 373 yards. Among the few highlights, defensive end Mario Addison and safety Quintin Mikell registered sacks, and Ted Ginn had a 32-yard punt return. Carolina, which came in allowing a league-low 13.1 points, should have a lot more success Week 15 when the Jets visit.
