The team also waived wide receiver Marcus Harris and safety Justin Currie. Harris missed the 2014 season due to a hip injury, while Currie was signed a rookie free agent in May.

    Marcus Harris 'standing out' in Giants camp

    Giants wide receiver Marcus Harris worked with the first-team offense, alongside fellow receivers Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle, during Wednesday's 11-on-11 drills. Harris is beginning to draw recognition after performing well since the start of training camp, which included four catches for 49 yards in the preseason opener against the Bills. "This game is based off trust," Harris said before practice Wednesday, per "The coaches I believe they trust me. Some coaches told me they trust me. Coach Coughlin is interacting with me more. I look at that." Wide receivers coach Sean Ryan has also had glowing comments about Harris, included among them a statement that Harris "does not drop the ball." Even Cruz is impressed by Harris' progress. "I think Marcus Harris, from the game he had and streaming into practice, he's been really taking advantage of his opportunities, couple guys being down and things like that," Cruz said. "He's really coming to the forefront here as a good player. We'll see how it goes, but he's definitely one of the guys that's standing out."

    Marcus Harris 'catching everything' at Giants camp

    Undrafted receiver Marcus Harris has impressed the Newark Star-Ledger this spring with consistently strong performances. Per the paper, Harris is "catching everything and getting open with consistency throughout the offseason workouts." Harris was with the Giants in camp last season but didn't make the final cut. The 6-foot-1, 185 pounder from Murray State played with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena League in 2013 and was the rookie of the year, catching 94 passes for 1,223 yards and 19 touchdowns with 1,200 return yards.

    David Carr driven out of New York by Giants

    The Giants have announced that they have waived quarterback David Carr, once a stalwart starter in Houston. Carr started for the Texans every year from 2002 to 2006 and led the league in completion percentage in the last of those seasons. But his record with the team was a meager 23-56. He played in 18 games with the Giants, but none as a starter. The following players have also been cut by the Giants: defensive ends Adrian Tracy, Adewale Ojomo and Matt Broha, defensive tackle Marvin Austin, linebacker Kyle Bosworth, offensive linemen Eric Herman, Matt McCants, Stephen Goodin and Bryant Browning, safety David Caldwell, cornerbacks Terrence Frederick and Charles James, and wide receivers Kevin Hardy, Marcus Harris and Julian Talley. The Giants also terminated the contract of running back Ryan Torain and waived safety Tyler Sash with an injury settlement.
