    John Potter finishes with eight points

    With Kai Forbath out another week, Redskins kicker John Potter was once again the kicker for Washington during Sunday's Week 3 loss at home to the Lions. Potter nailed a 43-yard field goal and hit both FGs he attempted in the game. He went 2 for 2 on PATs and finished with eight points scored. Forbath will look to return to action Week 4 at Oakland. If that happens, Potter will no longer be kicking for the Redskins.

    Redskins kicker Kai Forbath told reporters his groin injury is improving but he's unsure if he'll play Sunday against the Lions. If he can't go, John Potter will continue to handle placekicking duties.

    Redskins kicker situation unsettled

    Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Monday kicker Kai Forbath, who sat out Week 2 with a groin injury, won't be rushed to kick. He said he might not know anything about his status for Week 3 vs. Detroit until Friday. Shanahan said he doesn't know if the Redskins will keep John Potter, who handle the placekicking duties Week 2, until Forbath returns. "It all depends. I can't tell you exactly what we're going to do," Shanahan said.

    John Potter misses first FG try

    Redskins kicker John Potter missed his first career field goal attempt on Sunday during the Week 2 loss at Green Bay. Potter, filling in for Kai Forbath, missed from 50 yards wide right. He was 0 for 1 on field goal attempts and 2 for 2 on PATs for a total of two points. As long as Forbath is healthy, Potter won't be kicking for Washington Week 3 against the Lions.
