49ers' Garrett Celek: Scores twice against Falcons

Celek caught two passes off of two targets for 12 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's win over Atlanta. Celek peeled off into the flat on a play-action pass for a 1-yard score early in the second quarter and then boxed his defender out for an 11-yard touchdown shortly before halftime. The two scores were double his previous season total and with Vernon Davis out of town and Anquan Boldin nursing a hamstring injury, Celek looks like the 49ers' most legitimate red-zone threat in the short term.

    49ers' Garrett Celek: Active Sunday

Celek (concussion) is listed as active Sunday versus the Falcons. Celek has thus officially emerged from the concussion protocol just one week removed from the injury. While the Falcons have surrendered 47 receptions and four touchdowns to tight ends at the season's midpoint, expectations for Celek should be tempered with Blaine Gabbert now directing the 49ers' offense.

49ers' Garrett Celek: Uncertain for Sunday

Celek (concussion) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Falcons. Celek was limited in practice all week, suggesting that he still needs to clear a final hurdle or two in the NFL's concussion protocol. With Vernon Davis recently traded to Denver, both Celek and Vance McDonald have the opportunity to take on added snaps.

    49ers' Garrett Celek: Limited Thursday

Celek (concussion) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News reports. Players involved in the protocol for head injuries aren't restricted from taking part in individual drills, as there is little risk for contact, but the fact that Celek increased his activity implies that he may be approaching clearance from Sunday's concussion. However, until an independent neurologist gives approval, his status for Week 9 against the Falcons will remain shrouded in doubt.

49ers' Garrett Celek: No practice Wednesday

Celek (concussion) didn't participate in practice Wednesday, John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game reports. In the aftermath of Sunday's loss at St. Louis, Celek entered the protocol for head injuries, whose murky nature clouds his next appearance on the field. Once healthy, he should factor into a tight-end mix that is without Vernon Davis following his trade to Denver. In the meantime, though, the 49ers' healthy options include Vance McDonald and Blake Bell.

49ers' Garrett Celek: Dealing with concusison

Celek is going through the NFL's concussion protocol, the Press Democrat reports. It remains to be seen if Celek will be cleared in time for Sunday's game against the Falcons, but with fellow TE Vernon Davis having been traded by the 49ers on Monday, Celek could carve out a modest degree of fantasy utility moving forward. That's assuming he sees the bulk of the team's targets at the tight end position, a plausible outcome, though Vance McDonald and Blake Bell are also on hand on that front.

49ers' Garrett Celek: Held without a catch in Week 6

Though Celek was on the field for 46 of the 49ers' 59 offensive snaps in Sunday's win against Ravens, he did not catch a pass while being targeted twice in the game, CSN Bay Area reports. Meanwhile, fellow TE Vernon Davis played 34 snaps in his return to the 49ers' lineup, with Celek drawing the start in the contest. It wouldn't surprise us to see Davis back in the starting lineup, perhaps as soon as Thursday's game against the Seahawks, but none of the 49ers' tight ends look like high-percentage plays in Week 7, given that Vance McDonald recorded the 49ers' only catch from a tight end this past Sunday, for a 10-yard gain.

TE Garrett Celek expected to start Sunday night for 49ers

Tight end Vernon Davis (knee) will be inactive for the Sunday game against the Giants, which means Garrett Celek will get the start in his place for the 49ers. Celek has led all 49er tight ends in targets and receptions over the past two weeks, and figures to do the same Sunday. However, with how poor the passing game has been this year, he should not be relied upon outside of the deepest leagues.

Garrett Celek most targeted tight end in 49ers loss to Packers

Garrett Celek led all 49ers tight ends with three catches (five targets) for 26 yards in the loss to the Packers. For the second consecutive week, Celek was the most-targeted tight end for San Francisco. Usual starter Vernon Davis missed the game with a knee injury and his status is unknown for next week's tilt against the Giants. If he were to miss the game, Celek would apparently be the "starter," but he shouldn't be relied upon unless it was an emergency situation.

TE Vernon Davis inactive for 49ers on Sunday against Packers

Vernon Davis (knee) is inactive for the 49ers on Sunday against Green Bay. He had been designated as doubtful. Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek and Blake Bell are in line to handle the duties at that position, though none represent a high-percentage Fantasy play in Week 4.
